In our busy lives, it’s easy to let the little things slide. Every once in awhile it’s good to check in with yourself and make sure the little things are still in order. Here are some things to consider as you analyze your dental habits:
Brush: Brush your teeth at least two times a day. Use a soft bristled toothbrush,gentle pressure, and tooth-wide back-and-forth stroke. If this routine has become boring, spice it up, perhaps with a little music!
Floss: Floss every evening. Remember to floss all the way around each tooth, including the space between your last molars and your gums in the back. If you are renewing your flossing habit, some discomfort is normal–but if it lasts for more than 2 weeks, talk to Dr. DeAnn Harmon-Smith.
Eat Well: Your body needs the fuel you give it. This includes your mouth! Avoid sticky and starchy foods and fill up on calcium-rich goodness such as cheese. If you are lactose sensitive or intolerant, you’ll want to know that cheeses aged over 1 year no longer have lactose. You can also choose delicious dairy-free calcium-filled foods, such as beans, dark leafy greens, or calcium-fortified orange juice.
