I’m Pregnant: Can I Get an X-ray?

Posted .

Most people know that radiation can cause cancer. That’s why we get numerous inquiries and voiced concerns from expectant mothers who need X-rays for dental treatments. We entirely recognize the concern, and we’d like to resolve it.

First, please know that radiation from X-rays is very low and bears very little to no risk. Secondly, know that every time we perform an X-ray at Oconee Dental, PC, we cover the patient with a leaded apron to diminish the amount of exposure. These aprons cover the abdomen and will keep your child shielded. The dangers that stem from untreated dental ailments are much greater risks than X-rays, which are very normal. We will do all that we can to save you and your child’s health, so we may use an X-ray to diagnose conditions in the mouth. And as always, Dr. DeAnn Harmon-Smith will consult with you about your unique situation and determine what the right course of action is for you. If you’re still troubled about X-rays, please let us know so that we can work to find the right answer for you.
